In 2010, after a career ending back surgery while playing football for UT-Chatanooga I was looking for a change in my lifestyle. This is when a friend suggested CrossFit to me and from my very first class I was hooked! Over the past 3 years I have had the opportunity to train athletes of all ages and experience levels. Including coaching Varsity wrestling at Clarke Central High School where I was able to implement CrossFit during both in season and out of season conditioning for our athletes. Prior to opening CrossFit Dwala I also coached at Classic City CrossFit and CrossFit Indulto. In May 2013 I graduated from UGA with a degree in Sports Management.

Outside of CrossFit I enjoy football, time with family/friends and traveling.

While playing soccer growing up, I found an outlet to express myself, relieve stress, and grow as an individual.  It laid the ground work for me to go to school and make new ties when traveling to new places.  However, the older I got, the more often I found myself to injured to play as much as I would like.  When I stopped playing I proceeded to gain weight, a lot of weight.  From the time I graduated college and got married (to Anne Marie) until I finished graduate school with two kids (Hamp and Etta), I gained 80 lbs.  I then started to play soccer again, but my poor diet and the struggle to stay active made it difficult.  Using the Globogym route for 5 years, I began lifting weights, doing cardio, and watching what I ate to the sound of 25 lbs, but I was constantly bored.  In April 2012, I began searching for more community, more intensity, and competition and found CrossFit.  Since then, I have smashed goals, lost 20 more lbs, made “a few good” friends, and grown as a person.  I have been more successful at work, in the gym, and in my family life.  As a coach, I look forward to doing what I can to help everyone get the same out of CrossFit.

I found CrossFit in May 2012, after my husband (Coach Tripp now, but at the time, just regular Tripp) had been doing it for a month and dragged me in for an early Saturday morning death by WOD. We had been members of LifeTime prior to that, but I lacked enthusiasm about working out there, and found the idea of being packed into a sardine studio for a class with all the other ladies wildly flinging about to be overwhelming. Enter CrossFit. My first workout left me feeling like a passed out drunk. Afterward, I laid on the floor, the room swirling around me, one foot planted firmly on the ground to ensure my body did not start spinning along with its surroundings. Push ups, running, and air squats (while everyone else did slam balls) nearly killed this girl. I decided I would be back for more.

Since that first workout, everything has changed - and nothing has changed. I still get my ego and my fanny handed to me on a regular basis. But I am stronger, I am faster, and I am more efficient than I was when I started. I am still making gains, and I see the same results for everyone who comes in and is willing to do the work.
And there has been a totally unanticipated by product of CrossFit. Our children (Hamp, 10; and Etta, 7) are growing up in this amazing community, and it has affected them for the positive. Both kids love to have their own WODs. Hamp has begun a strength program, learning the fundamental movements and working up to big boy weights. He finds pride in both the lifting, and in the encouragement he gets from people he admires. The messages they receive regarding what is important cannot be ignored. When Etta was 4, she looked down at her belly and asked me if I thought she was fat. It was innocent enough, and she did not seem bothered by it, just curious. However, she already knew that "fat" was a thing. Fast forward to present, and when she talks about her body these days, she wants to know if I think she is strong. She is more interested in what her body can do. She wants muscles and to run fast, because she spends hours every week watching people around her working hard and encouraging each other as they themselves pursue these goals.

I am excited about the opportunity to start this new chapter in my CrossFit journey, and hope that others will gain all the positive sparkly goodness that CrossFit has brought to my life.

I'm from Marietta, GA and went to Walton High School- graduated 2008. From there I went to a small junior college called Truett-McConnell College to play baseball. I transferred to Kennesaw State University to pitch but hung up the cleats after one semester and transferred again to the University of Georgia to focus on academics. So long story short, I graduated from UGA in 2012- worked a bit in the corporate world, then moved to Zimbabwe for 5 months, came home to the US, became a CrossFit coach and wanted to try to go to law school. I've known Jake since we were about 6 years old and we lived together in college (at UGA). So when I'm in town from law school, most people will see me walking around helping out Jake in the afternoons.

I have bounced from fitness program to fitness fad for the better part of my adult life, until I found CrossFit. I did my research, gave it a try, and fell in love! I started intern coaching within months of beginning CrossFit, and that opened even more doors. I love seeing the changes that people can make in their life–not just in body composition or size, but in mental fitness, emotional fitness, confidence levels, and several other intangibles. I truly enjoy helping others achieve their goals!
